Acute pancreatitis due to influenza virus a with secondary appendicitis: the role of transabdominal ultrasound in the pediatric patient

Presentación:
48-year-old woman with presincope and disartria after anticoagulation for FA. A CT scan of the head was performed. Occipital left intraaxial lesion with blood-fluid level is visualized.

Discusión:
“Blood/fluid level” represents the interface between the plasma and sedimented blood1. Blood/fluid level is a radiologic finding seen with large of intraparenchymal hemorrhage.1 Clot forms within a few hours after a hemorrhage. Fibrinolysis is not usually active in the brain. Hence, hematomas in the acute stage shows homogeneously high density on CT. Blood/fluid level is a rare finding in intraparenchymal brain hemorrhages. It is associated with patients who have coagulopathy or who are receiving anticoagulation therapy. It has been related to tumors, amyloid angiopathy, arteriovenous malformation, and bleeding disorders (leukemia, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, hemophilia, warfarin, heparin, and thrombolytic agents). Coagulation disorders prevent the formation of a blood clot or their lysis, resulting in this imaging appearance. In the same way, anticoagulation therapy is an important factor contributing to blood sedimentation level production.1 Blood/fluid level is defined radiologically as the presence of area of low attenuation above and high attenuation below a discrete line of separation within an intraparenchymal hemorrhage.2
