This webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of pelvic vascular trauma imaging, focusing on MDCT angiography protocols, key imaging findings, and potential pitfalls that can impact diagnosis and management. Given the high morbidity and possible mortality associated with pelvic vascular injuries, accurate and timely radiologic assessment is crucial for guiding appropriate clinical interventions. This session is aimed at emergency radiologists, radiology residents, fellows, medical students, and other healthcare professionals interested in acute trauma imaging and its role in guiding critical decision-making.
The program for this webinar will cover:
– Optimizing MDCT protocols for detecting pelvic vascular injuries.
– Recognizing key imaging features of arterial and venous injuries, including active hemorrhage, pseudoaneurysms, arteriovenous fistulas, and venous disruptions.
– Understanding the clinical implications of imaging findings and their role in triaging patients for conservative management, endovascular embolization, or surgical intervention.
– Avoiding common pitfalls and misinterpretations in pelvic trauma imaging.
– Select and implement an appropriate MDCT protocol to optimize the detection of pelvic vascular injuries.
– Identify, describe, and differentiate between the spectrum of pelvic vascular injuries, including arterial, venous, and osseous sources of bleeding.
– Understand the role of imaging in clinical management and guide decision-making between nonoperative, interventional radiology, or surgical treatments.
– Recognize common pitfalls and artifacts that may lead to missed or overcalled vascular injuries.
Dr. Sameer Raniga, MD, FRCR (UK), is a Consultant Radiologist at the University Medical City, Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Muscat, Oman, and serves as a faculty member in Oman’s ACGME-I accredited radiology residency program. With expertise in Emergency, Trauma, and Musculoskeletal (MSK) radiology, Dr. Raniga is deeply committed to medical education and plays an active role in training medical students, residents, and fellows in Oman. He is a frequent contributor to international educational programs and is dedicated to advancing knowledge in radiology. Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Raniga is an advocate for quality assurance, patient safety, and non-interpretative skills development for radiology trainees.
Dr. Raniga has held editorial roles as an Associate Editor for both the Indian Journal of Musculoskeletal Radiology and the Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal (SQUMJ). Additionally, he serves as a peer reviewer for several prestigious radiology journals, including RadioGraphics, AJR, the European Journal of Radiology, BJR, and Insights into Imaging.
Dr. Raniga is an active member of the global radiology community, contributing to the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) as a member of the Annual Meeting Program Planning Committee for Emergency Radiology and serving as a reviewer for RSNA educational exhibits. He is also a member of several prestigious radiology organizations, including the RSNA, American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), European Society of Radiology (ESR), Oman Radiology and Molecular Imaging Society (ORMIS), Musculoskeletal Society of India, Asian Musculoskeletal Society (AMS), and the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA).
A prolific academic contributor, Dr. Raniga, has authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles, co-authored 8 book chapters, and presented at more than 100 international congresses.

General description, scope and objectives of this webinar:
Imaging of pregnant patients who have sustained trauma often generates fear and uncertainty among patients, their families, and healthcare professionals, largely due to concerns about potential radiation exposure to the fetus. This understandable anxiety can lead to unnecessary delays or the avoidance of clinically justified imaging—decisions that can ultimately compromise maternal management and stabilization, consequently leading to a poor fetal outcome. The webinar will provide an evidence-based update on the initial imaging of the pregnant trauma patient by reinforcing the principle that the initial imaging priorities of a pregnant trauma patient are the same as those of a non-pregnant trauma patient and should not be modified or delayed due to pregnancy status.
